YouTube Channels

Below is a list of YouTube channels on animal husbandry, agriculture, off-grid, and construction.   All of these channels are useful for beginning farmers and homesteaders.  The type of content varies quite a bit between channels.

Thank you to all of you that maintain these awesome channels and share your journeys with us.

Many of these channels are monitized and have advertisements, but I certainly don't mind supporting the work they do by sitting through a few ads ( or by getting YouTube Red).

White House on the Hill ( who should probably be on the list below but I keep forgetting to keep tabs on them) made this video of the top 10 videos of 2017, which is a nice introduction to some of the channels below.

The channels below are listed in the order that I generally hit them.  Many of the channels listed near the bottom are really good as well.. somehow I just don't watch them as much.  There is only so much YouTube time in a day, after all!

Diego Footer runs a couple podcasts, as well as having a very active YouTube channel. He covers some of the philosophical as well as financial aspects of running a full-time or part-time farm, and also goes through some of the methods he uses in his garden. He often tours and interviews relatively beginner or urban farmers about their experiences and choices. A great channel.

John Suscovich and Farm Marking Solutions.  Awesome resource with lots of information on animal husbandry and the business of agriculture.  John runs an orchard, a hop business to go with the onsite brewery, pigs, and chickens.  He does a great job sharing everything from his business decisions to daily chores.

Appalachia's Homestead with Patera.  Patera and her husband run a small homestead in Tennessee selling eggs.  They also have a small number of cows, pigs, and goats on the farm.  She shares lots of down-to-earth information about homesteading, both positives and negatives, as well as information on their business and daily chores.  A great channel.

Fouch Family Off Grid.  This family is building a house and a living completely off grid.   This includes some great videos on building their house as well as just other fun information.

Sew The Land.  This family moved from California to the Carolinas and have started gardening and raising broiler chickens and attempting to eat healhier and be more connected to the land.   The videos on this site are really, really beautifully done.

Off Grid with Doug and Stacy.  Doug and Stacy started their homestead later in life and live off-grid sharing tips and other information.  They use the horses to assist with agriculture and are often confused with the Amish they live among.  Really a fun site with lots of different information.

Guildbrook Farm.  This family has been documented their attempt to be more self-sufficient for some time and just recently ( late 2017 ) is moving to a new 20 acre lot in the Appalachia mountains to continue this journey.  Their story and videos cover many topics about self-sufficiency, including some really good canning and prepping videos.  The candor with which they share their story and lessons is particularly noteworthy.

Homesteady.   This great channel delves into the business side of animal husbandry and does many tours and joint productions with other homesteads as well.

Deep South Homestead.   Danny and Wanda live on a homestead in Mississippi in the deep south and share their journey and musings.

Neversink Farms.  A great channel with some very good veg farm business information.

Art and Bri.  Another great channel on homesteading and primarily small livestock husbandry.

Justin Rhodes.  Another great channel on homesteading and animal husbandry.

Dirtpatchheaven.  This channel has many gardening tips, ways to save money, and information on small/tiny houses and homesteading.

Cog Hill Farms.   ( aka, the 'dancing farmer') Central alabama homestead and farm doing all pasture raised animals, heritage pigs, etc.  Great music and fun videos of their adventure.

The Grass-fed Homestead.  Really good educational videos.

Essential Mountain Homesteading.  Alot of good videos on house construction on their mountain homestead.

Pure Living for Life.   Sometimes you need to take the bad with the good.  This channel seems to pander to commercialization.  But this is the story of a couple that dropped everything and moved to an off-grid (currently) plot of land and built their own post-and-beam timber framed house.
